Cracks need not be hidden: Kinji's Way of Wabi-sabi

The allure of Kintsugi lies not in flawless restoration, but in “acknowledging imperfection.” In the course, you’ll discover that the direction of the gold lines resembles calligraphy; clean lines and finishes define the object’s sophistication. It’s a tranquil time to clear your mind and focus your hands. As you draw the final gold line with focused concentration, those past imperfections will transform into a beautiful, memorable landscape, illuminated by the gold dust.

From Repair to Everyday Use: Bringing Craftsmanship Back to Daily Life

Many Kintsugi experiences are merely decorative, but our classes place special emphasis on “practicality.” The materials we use meet food container safety standards, meaning that the finished products you take home, after being properly settling as instructed, can be reused to hold snacks or tea. This is a respect for the objects themselves, and a profound way of preserving the memories of your journey.

Tool explanation, repair and fine polishing

Learn the concept of using tools. When you start filling in the gaps, the most crucial step, “grinding,” is the soul of the process. Only by making the surface smooth can the subsequent gold lines be neat and textured.

Second half: Gilding presentation and artistic composition

Gilding Ceremony: A Second Creation of the Crack

After repairing the lines, apply paint and glue, and then sprinkle gold powder on top. This step will determine the overall character of the piece; you can decide the thickness and intensity of the gold lines according to your personal preference.
