The Ice Concerto of the Sea of Okhotsk
Take a ride on the famous icebreaker “Aurora” and experience firsthand the vibrations and sounds of the ship crashing into the drift ice. Afterwards, transfer to the limited-time “Drift Ice Story” sightseeing train and capture up close the pure white seascape along the railway line through the train windows.
A dual baptism of history and science
Step into the “Abashiri Prison Museum” to learn about the arduous story behind the history of Hokkaido’s development; head to the “Drift Ice Museum” to experience the mystery of drift ice formation at sub-zero temperatures, and fully unlock the local charm of Abashiri.

Report to JR Abashiri Station or the bus terminal and board a dedicated sightseeing bus for a day trip.
Icebreaker Aurora sets sail
Embark on a 60–75 minute cruise to witness the awe-inspiring sight of drifting Arctic ice floes, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot seals or Steller’s sea eagles.
Museum Abashiri Prison
Enjoy free time to visit well-preserved old buildings and experience the weight of history and the history of Hokkaido’s colonization.
