A Winter Dreamscape Formed by Frozen Spring Water
The spring water from the seven large waterfalls seeps from the rock walls, freezing into countless enormous blue icicles in the harsh winter. This icefall, hidden deep in the forests of Lake Shikotsu, boasts both great height and width, and its breathtaking visual effect has earned it the reputation as one of Hokkaido’s most beautiful natural works of art in winter.
Lightweight snow forest adventure
The itinerary is approachable, taking about 2 hours to stroll along gentle forest trails, making it suitable for travelers without hardcore hiking experience who want to explore the snow country scenery in depth. The tour starts and ends in the hot spring town, allowing for a seamless transition to enjoying the warm and cozy Shikotsu Lake hot springs afterward.

Preparing to proceed with the forest trail
Arrival and Change of Clothes
Meet at Shikotsukoshi Onsen Street. After filling out an agreement form, receive equipment such as boots, non-slip mats, and gloves to ensure safety and warmth while walking in the snow.
Snow Forest Hiking Guide
Advance with a guide. Listen to the natural ecology of Lake Shikotsu as you wander through the silvery coniferous forest and search for the waterfall along the gentle slope.
The breathtaking icefall and its disbandment
Appreciation of the Seven Great Icefalls of Otaki
Arrive at the magnificent icefall. You can observe the details of the icicles up close and, with a guide, find the best angles to capture the sacred moments of this ice palace.
Return to the hot spring town and the party ends.
Return to the shop via the same route to return the equipment. After the trip, it is recommended to visit a nearby hot spring hotel to wash away the winter chill.

Important Notes: The guided tour will primarily be conducted in Japanese. Participants must bring their own warm, windproof jacket and waterproof snow pants. Pregnant women, those with serious illnesses, or those with mobility impairments are not permitted to participate. A full refund will be issued in case of cancellation due to inclement weather.
