Itinerary Details
120 Years of Heritage: A Glimpse into the Artisan’s World
Step into Kondo Dyehouse, a cornerstone of Asahikawa’s artisanal history. This is more than a workshop; it is a living museum where you will witness the creation of “Tairyo-bata”—magnificent fishing flags that symbolize hope and a bountiful harvest. Feel the pulse of tradition as master dyers demonstrate their unwavering commitment to color precision and time-honored techniques.
Painting Your Memories: The Art of Hand-Brushed Dyeing
Master the “Hikizome” (hand-brushed dyeing) technique, a delicate process that requires a steady hand and a keen eye. Guided by a professional, you will use fine-bristled brushes to massage vibrant pigments deep into the fabric fibers. To make your work truly one-of-a-kind, you can add your own initials to the design—transforming a simple piece of cloth into a personal masterpiece of your Hokkaido journey.
