Iwate Selections | Iwachu Nanbu Wind Chimes

Crafted with high-density cast iron by a renowned Nanbu ironware shop in Morioka, Iwate, this Japanese artisan wind chime boasts an unparalleled crisp and clear sound.

“Iwa-zukuri” from Morioka, Iwate, is synonymous with Japanese Nanbu ironware. Their wind chimes are widely recognized for having the purest sound – when the hammer forges the shape at 1200 degrees Celsius, it transforms into a gentle tinkling sound in the breeze; the crispness and lingering resonance are a level of craftsmanship that mass-produced wind chimes cannot match.

The high density and rigidity of Nanbu ironware produce extremely high and stable sound waves when struck. This is not just a sound, but also a kind of “Zansho” – a clear, non-harsh sound when a gentle breeze blows, bringing a dual sense of visual and auditory coolness to summer.
