The Maritime Classroom of Yamada Bay: The Path to Oyster and Sail Training
Yamada Town is famous for its high-quality oysters and rafts. Countless aquaculture rafts float in the bay, a sea farm protected by local fishermen for generations.
This trip is led by a real fisherman, who will row to the aquaculture raft to observe the growth process of oysters and oysters up close, and listen to the fisherman talk about their daily life coexisting with the sea in the simplest words.
There are no fancy explanations, but there is the most authentic fisherman’s sentiment. A trip only takes about 1 hour, but it will make you have more respect for the seafood in front of you.
Adding to the freshness and sweetness: A tasting experience on a boat with sails in hand.
In addition to the learning experience, you may want to purchase a tasting of freshly caught sea snails for 600 yen per person. You can taste the fresh and sweet flavor of the sea snails directly on the boat. It is a local delicacy that no restaurant can replicate (we cannot guarantee that it will be available in case of shellfish poisoning or high water temperature).
Open for a limited time during the summer and autumn (June to October), it can be visited by one person only. Whether it is a family trip, a couple’s short trip or a solo visit, you can experience the most sincere hospitality of the Yamada fishing village.

Departure and Learning on Aquaculture Rafts
Gather and depart
Meet at the location designated by the fisherman (depending on the fisherman in charge that day, you will be notified separately after making an appointment), and take a boat to the Yamada Bay aquaculture raft area.
Close observation of oysters and sail-shaped aquaculture rafts
Follow the fisherman to the aquaculture raft, observe firsthand how oysters and oysters are hoisted and cultivated, and listen to the fisherman share the intricacies of aquaculture and the details of life at sea.
Freshly caught scallops for tasting
You can enjoy the fresh, sweet taste of freshly caught scallops on board (this may not be available if there is shellfish poisoning or high water temperature).
Fu Gui
End the about 1 hour sea study trip and return to the meeting point to disband.

Itinerary Description
- The tour lasts approximately one hour, but the actual content may vary depending on sea conditions and the fisherman’s arrangements on the day.
- It is open from summer to autumn (June to October).
Fee Description
- Registration requires a minimum of 3 people. If you have fewer than 3 people, please contact us first.
- The product includes a sample of freshly caught scallops, but this sample cannot be provided in cases of shellfish poisoning or excessively high seawater temperatures.
Appointment Instructions
- Advance booking is required; individual travel plans must be booked at least 10 days prior to departure.
- Group or travel agency tours must be booked one month in advance of the departure date.
- The meeting point will vary depending on the fisherman in charge that day, and you will be notified separately after the reservation is completed.
Weather and Sea Conditions
- We apologize that the trip may not be able to proceed as scheduled due to inclement weather or fishing operations.
Cancellation policy
- Once a reservation is made, a 5% system cancellation fee will be charged if the reservation is cancelled due to personal reasons.
- Cancellation 7 days before departure date: 30%
- Cancellation 3 days before departure date: 50%
- Cancellations after 5:00 PM the night before departure or on the same day: 100% chance of cancellation.
Remarks column
- This tour does not include a language guide. The fishermen will provide a warm and welcoming experience in a traditional, unpretentious manner.
- We recommend wearing non-slip and waterproof shoes, avoiding getting your valuables wet, and taking precautions for personal safety during sea activities.
- If you would like to purchase a sample of freshly cooked seafood skewers, please inform us of the number of people when making your reservation.
