From Witnessing Wildlife to Understanding What Reaches the Table

This is more than a hunting experience—it is an opportunity to explore the relationship between wildlife, people, and the food we eat. Guided by Mr. Kanesawa, representative of MOMIJI, you’ll learn how responsible hunting contributes to the management of satoyama landscapes and helps maintain a healthy ecological balance. From an early-morning outing in the Otsuchi highlands to learning how venison is carefully processed, you’ll discover the philosophy of making full use of each animal, including its meat, hide, and antlers.

A Mountain-and-Sea Feast: Deer & Sanriku Seafood BBQ

Gather around the BBQ and enjoy Otsuchi venison alongside fresh seafood from the Sanriku coast. As hunters and local artisans share stories around the table, discover the connection between the mountains and the sea, and the people who care for both. Introduction & MOMIJI Workshop Visit

Meet at the MOMIJI processing facility and receive a safety briefing and introduction to responsible hunting. Tour the venison processing area and see how materials such as antlers and hides are transformed into useful crafts, demonstrating a commitment to making the most of each animal.

Otsuchi Venison × Sanriku Seafood BBQ

Learn how to prepare venison with guidance from local hunters, then enjoy a BBQ featuring Otsuchi deer and Sanriku seafood. Over the meal, hear stories from hunters and artisans about wildlife management, conservation, and life in the region.

Set out early in the morning with experienced hunters into the Otsuchi highlands. Observe the local landscape and learn about deer behavior, responsible hunting practices, and the role hunting plays in maintaining the balance of the satoyama environment.

Butchery Workshop: Learning to Use Every Part

Return to the processing facility and learn how venison is carefully prepared. Under expert guidance, explore the different cuts and textures of the meat and, where appropriate, take part in the butchery process. Gain a deeper understanding of the journey from wildlife to food and the importance of using each animal responsibly.

Important Notes

  • Please wear long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, and non-slip boots suitable for outdoor activities.
  • The mountainous areas can be cold, especially in the early morning. Please wear sufficient warm clothing.
  • This experience includes hunting and butchery-related activities and may involve blood or other visually sensitive scenes. Guests who are uncomfortable with such situations should inform the staff in advance. Staff will provide guidance and support on site.
  • The hunting portion is subject to weather, wildlife conditions, and safety considerations and may be changed or cancelled when necessary.
  • The tour is conducted primarily in Japanese, with basic English explanations available.

  • A 5% system cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations made for personal reasons after booking.
  • 7 days before departure: 30%
  • 3 days before departure: 50%
  • 1 day before departure and on the day of departure: 100%
