The Tsugaru Railway’s stove trains are a famous winter tradition in Japan. Inside the carriages are traditional Daruma stoves, which are regularly refilled by the train attendants. You can buy dried squid and watch the staff grill it directly on the stove; the aroma immediately fills the warm, wood-filled space. Accompanied by announcements in the Tsugaru dialect, even the blizzard outside seems gentler.
A Culinary Feast in the Snowfield: Stove-Warm Bento Box
The package includes a special winter-limited “stove bento.” Made with local ingredients, this bento allows you to sip hot tea or sake while watching the silvery landscape rush past your train window. This “safety net” ensures you won’t have to worry about not being able to buy a bento during peak season, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the romance of your train journey.

Nostalgic Start and Stove Experience
Reporting to Tsugaru Goshogawara Station
Pick up your round-trip tickets and a special “stove bento” at the station window. We recommend arriving at the platform early to take photos and capture the classic pose of the coal-stove locomotive and carriages.
Outbound journey: Take the Stove Train
Board the unreserved seating car and find your favorite fireplace seat. Unfold your bento box, add some squid for a grilling experience, and feel the red glow and warmth from the fireplace.
Midway point stroll and beautiful scenery on the return journey
Arrive at Tsugaru Nakasato Station
Arrive at the terminus of the Tsugaru Railway. You can take photos on the platform and in the carriages, or take a short break in the quaint little station and buy local specialties.
Return trip and arrival disbandment
Take the return train back to Goshogawara. This journey offers a different window view, allowing you to capture the light and shadows unlike the outward journey, before returning to the starting point to conclude this heartwarming trip.
