The Stove Train is one of Tsugaru Railway’s most beloved winter traditions. Inside the vintage-style carriages, traditional Daruma coal stoves glow warmly as train attendants regularly tend the fire. Pick up some dried squid on board and grill it directly over the stove, filling the carriage with its irresistible aroma. With the Tsugaru dialect heard over the train announcements and snow-covered landscapes passing outside, the journey feels like stepping into another era of Japan.

A Nostalgic Start & Stove Train Experience
Check in at Tsugaru-Goshogawara Station
Collect your round-trip train tickets and special Stove Train bento at the station. Arrive early to explore the platform and take photos of the classic train before boarding.
Outbound Journey: Ride the Stove Train
Board the Stove Train and find a seat near the glowing coal stove. Unpack your bento, purchase dried squid to grill over the fire, and settle in to enjoy the warmth and atmosphere of the carriage as the snowy landscape passes by.
Tsugaru Nakasato & Scenic Return Journey
Arrive at Tsugaru-Nakasato Station
Arrive at Tsugaru-Nakasato Station, the northern terminus of the Tsugaru Railway. Take photos of the train and station, explore the charming platform, or enjoy a short break before your return journey.
Return Journey & Departure
Board the return train to Goshogawara and enjoy a different perspective of the winter landscape. The changing light and scenery offer new photo opportunities before you arrive back at your starting point.

- Seating on the heated Stove Train cars is generally unreserved. During busy periods, we recommend arriving early and queuing before boarding.
- The area around the coal stove becomes very hot. Please take extra care when sitting near the stove, especially with children. Children should be seated away from the stove.
- The smell of grilled dried squid may remain on your clothes after the journey. Please be aware of this when choosing what to wear.
- The Stove Train operates only during the designated winter season and may be subject to changes due to railway operating conditions.
- The tour is conducted primarily in Japanese, with basic English assistance available.
