Itinerary Details
Living cultural heritage: Haenyeo (female divers) and their huts
Ama, or ama, are Japanese fisherwomen who have practiced breath-holding fishing by hand for over two thousand years. In Ise-Shima, we will take you to a real “Amagoya” (female diver’s hut). Beside the crackling charcoal fire, watch the ama grill conch and fresh fish for you, and listen to their stories of finding balance in the ocean. This philosophy of “coexisting with nature” is the warmest soul of Shima Bay.
The Birth of Ultimate Luster: Pearl Cultivation and Harvesting
Shima Kenjima Island is the birthplace of pearl farming. The itinerary includes a visit to “Pearl Beauty Tree,” where professional pearl farmers will guide you through the process of extracting a unique pearl from an oyster shell. This joy of hands-on discovery, combined with a guided tour of Mikimoto Pearl Island’s craftsmanship, allows you to piece together the complete story of the dazzling pearl nurtured by this azure sea.
