Arrive on Yakushima & Check In

Take a high-speed ferry from Kagoshima to either Anbō or Miyanoura Port. After checking in to your accommodation, enjoy some free time to relax and settle into the slower pace of island life. We recommend enjoying fresh local seafood for dinner and getting plenty of rest before tomorrow’s challenging hike.

Day 2 | Jomon Sugi Trek: A Journey Through Yakushima’s Ancient Forest

Begin the Jomon Sugi Trek

Meet your English-speaking guide early in the morning and take a shuttle bus to the trailhead. Set out on a challenging 9–10-hour hike through Yakushima’s ancient forest, with your guide sharing insights into the island’s natural environment and history along the way. The journey culminates at the legendary Jomon Sugi, one of the island’s most remarkable natural treasures.

Descend the Mountain & Return to Your Hotel

After spending time at Jomon Sugi, retrace the trail and descend the mountain with your guide. Return to your accommodation at around 6:30 PM and enjoy a well-earned dinner. A bowl of local Yakushima udon is a great way to replenish your energy after the day’s trek.

Explore the Western Forest Trail by E-Bike

After preparing your cycling gear, set out by electric-assisted bicycle to explore Nagata Beach, Yokogawa Valley, and the island’s historic lighthouse. Ride deep into the Western Forest Trail, keeping an eye out for Yakushima’s native wildlife, including deer and monkeys, as you travel through the lush forest and along the coast.

Lunch by Ōkawa Falls & Final Island Stops

Enjoy a packed lunch beside the spectacular Ōkawa Falls, one of Yakushima’s most impressive waterfalls. Continue to Chihiro Falls and stop at YAKUSHIMA BLESS to browse local souvenirs before your guide takes you back to the port for your afternoon ferry to Kagoshima.

Important Notes

  • Physical requirements: The Jomon Sugi trek is physically demanding and involves approximately 9–10 hours of hiking over uneven and mountainous terrain. Please assess your fitness level carefully before booking.
  • Additional fees: A ¥1,000 nature conservation fee and a ¥1,500 mountain bus fee will be charged on the day of the trek.
  • What to bring: Please bring your own lunch for Day 2 and Day 3, as well as sufficient drinking water and any personal medication you may need.
  • Clothing: Skirts and open-toed footwear are not permitted. Moisture-wicking long-sleeved shirts and long trousers are recommended.

  • Once a reservation is made, a 5% system cancellation fee will be charged if the reservation is cancelled due to personal reasons.
  • 7 days before departure: 30%
  • 3 days before departure: 50%
  • Previous day and same day: 100%
