Itinerary Details
A green carpet where time stands still: Shiratani Unsuikyo Taiko Rock Route
This is Yakushima’s most famous forest hiking trail, and also the real-life inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki’s films. Led by a professional guide, you traverse a dreamlike forest path interwoven with ferns and tundra, each step feeling like stepping into a scene from an animation—the unreal beauty makes many travelers lose track of time as they walk. The final stop is Taiko-iwa at an altitude of 1,050 meters. Standing atop this massive granite rock, you can gaze out at the island’s tender new shoots and deep green forests unfolding side by side, feeling the most primal and pure life energy emanating from this World Heritage Site.
Strolling on the Emerald Waters: Anbo River SUP Experience
Far from the waves of the open sea, the tranquil Awa River is like an emerald mirror. Walking through the shade of the trees, light and shadow shimmer on the water. Under the guidance of an English instructor, I stand on a stand-up paddleboard and glide gently across the river with the rhythm of the paddle, listening to the natural symphony of birdsong and the sound of water. This timeless peace is Yakushima’s gentlest gift to travelers; the phytoncides of the forest and the river allow body and mind to completely reset on this morning.
Itinerary
Day 1: Crossing the Island and Baptizing with the Ancient Sacred Tree
Departure from Kagoshima Port and arrival at Yakushima
Take a high-speed ferry to Anbo Port and switch to the pace of the island amidst the rhythm of the waves, allowing your journey to truly slow down from this moment on.
Yakushima Cedar Park and Kigen Cedar Tour
Take a sightseeing bus to the nature recreation forest and admire the 3,000-year-old ancient cedar. Begin your deepest spiritual dialogue on the first day of your journey in a forest bath, and feel the tranquility and power bestowed by the ancient trees.
Day 2: The Forest of Moss - Shiratani Unsuikyo Long March
Baigu Yunshui Gorge "Magic Princess" Hiking
Accompanied by a professional guide throughout, challenge yourself with the Taiko Rock Route. Wander through the dreamlike tundra forest, reach the granite boulder at the summit, and overlook the magnificent greenery of Yakushima Island. You won’t be able to stop taking pictures!
Forest lunch and rest on the way back
Enjoy a light lunch in the forest, and in the afternoon, your guide will take you back to the hotel. Enjoy a leisurely evening and let your energy slowly recover in the hot springs or quiet room.
Day 3: Strolling on the Water and the Taste Memory of Flying Fish
Abogawa SUP Stand Up Paddling Experience
Take advantage of the morning light to paddle on the Anbo River. Under the guidance of an English instructor, glide freely as if taking a walk on the river and enjoy the phytoncides-rich atmosphere surrounded by both forest and river.
Flying Fish Local Cuisine and Return Trip
Enjoy a three-way flying fish kabayaki lunch, savoring a unique flavor only found on Yakushima Island. Afterwards, head to Miyanoura Port to catch the 15:45 ferry, bidding a reluctant farewell to this idyllic island where time seems to slow down, bathed in the glow of the setting sun.
