A Green Myth Amidst the Verdant Mist: Baigu Yunshui Gorge
This is one of the most spiritual areas on Yakushima Island. Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge is famous for its dense moss and clear streams. On a 3 to 5 hour hike, you will traverse intertwined tree roots to reach Taiko Rock. When you look down at the verdant mountains, it feels like you have traveled through time and entered the forest where gods and spirits coexist in Princess Mononoke.
A Silent Adventure: The Rhythm of Biking on Western Forest Trails
Riding an electric-assisted bicycle, you can listen intently to the subtlest birdsong and flowing water in the forest. The western forest trails are one of the few sparsely populated sections of the island and a World Heritage Site. Here, we are not just tourists, but part of nature itself. From Nagata Beach, where sea turtles lay their eggs, to the majestic Okawa Falls, every kilometer of cycling is a profound dialogue with the soul of Yakushima.
Itinerary
Day 1: Island Crossing and Free Time on the Island
Arrive at Yakushima and check into the hotel
Arrive at Awa or Miyanoura Port by high-speed ferry. After check-in, you’re free to relax. We recommend enjoying a local seafood meal at “Sushi Umigetsu” or “Shiosou” to savor your slow-paced island first day.
Day 2: Moss Forest - Hiking at Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge
Baigu Yunshui Gorge "Magic Princess" Hiking
After enjoying a boxed breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up and transferred by your guide. Enter Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge (a 1000 yen cooperation fee needs to be paid on-site) for a 3-5 hour forest adventure, exploring Shiratani Sanso and Taiko Rock.
Forest lunch and return rest
Enjoy your own lunch by the stream. The tour concludes at 3:30 PM with a guided ride back to the hotel. You can take a stroll in Miyanoura in the evening to recharge for tomorrow’s cycling trip.
Day 3: Green Cycling Exploration and Waterfall Tour
Western Forest Trail E-Bike Cycling Tour
Meet your guide to collect your bicycles. Visit Nagata Beach, Yokogawa Valley, and the century-old lighthouse in that order. Hop on your bicycles for a 60-minute exhilarating ride along the western forest trails and look for Yakushiro deer.
Okawa Falls Lunch and Souvenir Shops
Enjoy lunch beside the majestic Oikawa Falls. Afterwards, visit Senhiro Falls and the central banyan tree. Finally, purchase Yakusugi handicrafts at “YAKUSHIMA BLESS” and be escorted by your guide to the port to board your boat home.
