A Green Myth Amidst the Verdant Mist: Baigu Yunshui Gorge
This is one of the most spiritual areas on Yakushima Island, and the inspiration for the forest scenes in Hayao Miyazaki’s “Princess Mononoke.” Dense moss covers every rock and tree root, and clear streams meander through the forest; every step feels like stepping into an ancient myth where gods and spirits coexist. Reaching Taiko Rock through the intertwined tree roots, and standing atop the mountain overlooking the completely verdant mountains, the sheer power of that moment has led many travelers to say—photographs simply cannot capture the magic of this place.
A Silent Adventure: The Rhythm of Biking on Western Forest Trails
Hop on an electric-assisted bicycle and listen intently to the subtlest birdsong and flowing water in the forest. The western forest trails are precious sections of the island with few vehicles and are listed as a World Heritage Site. Here, you are not just a tourist, but also a part of nature. From Nagata Beach, where sea turtles lay their eggs, to the century-old lighthouse in Yokogawa Valley, to the majestic Okawa Falls, every kilometer of cycling is a direct and profound dialogue with the soul of Yakushima—a unique experience that cannot be given by hiking or driving.
Itinerary
Day 1: Island Crossing and Free Time on the Island
Arrive at Yakushima and check into the hotel
Arrive at Awa or Miyanoura Port by high-speed ferry, check in, and enjoy your free time. We recommend visiting “Sushi Umigetsu” or “Shiosou” to savor local seafood cuisine and begin your journey at a relaxed island pace.
Day 2: Mossy Forest - Hiking at Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge
Baigu Yunshui Gorge "Magic Princess" Hiking
After enjoying a boxed breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up and transferred by your guide. Enter Shiratani Unsuikyo for a 3 to 5 hour deep forest retreat, exploring Shiratani Villa and Taiko Rock, and rediscovering long-lost tranquility amidst the tundra.
Forest lunch and return rest
Enjoy your own lunch by the stream, allowing your mind and body to completely relax amidst the sounds of water and birdsong. At 3:30 PM, the tour concludes with a guided return to the hotel. In the evening, you can take a leisurely stroll in Miyanoura to recharge for tomorrow’s cycling trip.
Day 3: Green Cycling Exploration and Waterfall Tour
Western Forest Trail E-Bike Cycling Tour
Meet up with your guide to pick up your bicycles, and explore Nagata Beach, Yokogawa Valley and the century-old lighthouse in sequence. Experience a 60-minute green cycling adventure on the western forest trails, and look for the leisurely strolling Yakushi deer. You won’t be able to stop taking pictures.
Okawa Falls Lunch and Souvenir Shops
Enjoy lunch beside the majestic Okawa Falls, then visit Senhiro Falls and the central banyan tree. Finally, purchase Yakusugi handicrafts at “YAKUSHIMA BLESS” and be warmly escorted to the port by your guide to board your boat home.

Physical fitness description
- The hike through Shiratani Yunshui Gorge takes approximately 3 to 5 hours. Please ensure your physical condition is suitable for a long walk.
