Itinerary Details
The Rhythm of Life's Source: Awa River SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding)
Our first stop upon arriving in Yakushima is to greet each other in the most water-based way. The Awa River boasts crystal-clear waters, and its banks are surrounded by pristine forests. With the guidance of professional instructors, even beginners can stand steadily on the SUP board. As you glide along the gentle stream, with schools of fish swimming beneath your feet and swaying greenery overhead, this tranquil feeling of “floating in the forest” is the perfect ritual to begin your Yakushima adventure.
The End of the Wilderness Expedition: A Pilgrimage to the Ancient Jomon Sugi
The Jomon Sugi is not only a symbol of Yakushima Island, but also a legend of life spanning thousands of years. This long journey, about 22 kilometers round trip, tests the traveler’s will. Starting from the abandoned forest railway, passing through the spiritually imbued Wilson Tree, when the giant Jomon Sugi appears in the morning mist, the awe spanning four thousand years (some say seven thousand two hundred years) will become the most powerful natural energy replenishment in your life.
Itinerary

Departure from Kagoshima and Arrival at Yakushima
Take a high-speed ferry to Anbo Port. Upon arrival, you can enjoy a local flying fish meal and store your heavy luggage in the station lockers.
Abogawa SUP Stand Up Paddle Adventure
Walk to the meeting point. Don life jackets and enjoy 3 hours of stand-paddleboarding on the verdant Anbo River, led by a professional English-speaking guide. Afterwards, retrieve your luggage and head to the hotel to collect your hiking rental equipment from the guide.
Day 2: Jomon Sugi Mt. Climbing Mountain – A Long March Through a Thousand Years
Arakawa Trail Start and Forest Hiking
After picking up the hotel breakfast box in the early morning, we set off. The guide picked us up and took us to the trailhead, where we boarded the old forest tram line and passed by the Sandai Sugi, Niō Sugi, and Wilson’s Tree in sequence.
Pilgrimage to Jomon Sugi and a safe return
Take photos with the Jomon Sugi at the finish line and feel the awe of this World Heritage Site. After descending the mountain, the guide will take you back to the hotel to rest and return the rented equipment. You are free to choose a local seafood restaurant for dinner to replenish your energy.
Day 3: Island Bus Tour and Return Trip
Yakuzaru-go sightseeing bus tour
Take a local bus to visit the Banyan Tree in the middle, the Ochiwa Waterfall (88-meter drop), the Western Forest Road (to look for deer and monkeys), and the Nagata Beach.
